Review by Kimolaoha : Improved 10x12 Shed Now Includes 5 Roof Beams

This May 2009 review is for the Suncast Model A01B37C03 10' x 12 1/2' Storage Building -- purchased from Amazon. Also see the pictures that I have uploaded. The most important thing for prospective purchasers to note is that Suncast has substantially improved this shed since it was first released in 2007. While the original shed had only three ridge beams to support the roof, the new Model A01B37C03 sheds now include 5 beams, PLUS an additional header support tube for the rear header. Suncast claims that the roof can now support 15 pounds per square foot, i.e. pretty heavy snowfall. This improvement is significant, and makes a product that was already very good exceptional. It took only 11 days from the time I ordered from Amazon until the product was delivered to me in the Washington DC metropolitan area. The product is drop-shipped from Suncast in Illinois via freight shipper - in my case CEVA - who called me the morning the shed arrived in their Baltimore facility and delivered it the same morning. There are four large boxes - two of them are perhaps manageable by one person dragging them to the back yard, and the other two are not. The heaviest, with the beams, must be unpacked to be relocated. The CEVA driver was kind enough to help me get the three lighter boxes around back and off of the driveway. The fourth took me about 30 minutes to unpack and repack in the back yard. I built the wood platform specified in the Suncast manual and used 30 Dek-Blocks (highly recommended) - with exterior grade pressure treated 2x6s and 3/4" plywood. Because I was building on a pretty substantial slope, the shed platform took me a full weekend to build and several hundred dollars worth of materials. It is, however, rock solid and level - which is critical to the subsequent shed construction. The manual specifies a platform of 10'3" by 12'10", which is what I built. However, the actual shed footprint is only 10'

Wow. Its hard to believe that Amazon ships this shed for free. It arrived on a large pallet in 4 big boxes. When I saw the manual I was a little afraid of the amount of time it would take to put it together however It was extremely easy. Infact almost all the pieces snap together and I would estimate it took me 5 hours from the time I started. That includes carrying all the boxes to the back yard & unpacking. I read some other reviews about the sturdyness of the shed - but once again I was impressed! I could have bought a 8 x 8 stick built kit at my local hardware store for approx $499 - but by the time you buy the extra plywood for the floor, the shingles and tarpaper, and all of the screws and nails PLUS the time building it all I decided this was the way to go and I still think that way after buying it.

Review by Nick Walker : Nice Shed! Assembly not so nice!

This is a very nice size shed. Looks great, and appears to hold up well to weather. We've had some very heavy downpours without a drop in the shed. Assembly was quite tricky though. Some of the parts, were actually bent and or warped to an extreme. This required some real ingenuity to get the parts together. I would recommend that you assemble it in somewhat cool weather. The hot sun will make it more warped. The Pergola was strictly for cosmetic effect. If installed, it also takes away a good chunk of your overhead light that streams through. Extremely difficult to align correctly, so we finally gave up and did not add it. Looks just as nice without it, and saved us quite a headache! You ABSOLUTELY need 2 people to assemble this shed. Especially when assembling the roof sections. Plan on a full weekend to complete assembly. Finally, you will need to have a base for this shed, either wood, cement, or blocks. It clearly states in the instructions that your warranty is void if it is not placed on a solid base. Yes it shows it on the ground, but figure at least another few hundred bucks for the base, depending of course, on what material you choose. Overall, I'm very pleased with the look and size. Also, the shutters, and window boxes are actually a nice touch. They look very nice with some trailing flowers!

We made the mistake of assembling this item before inspecting all of the pieces. Midway through assembling the shed, we discovered that one of the side panels had a piece of the bottom broken off. Since we were short on time my husband decided to patch it himself when it was completed. The shed is really nice overall and not that difficult to put together. It took three people (one who only read directions and supervised) about three hours to assemble. My husband had the flooring already put together and bolted down beforehand (ours was placed over a concrete base per city code) which took an additional hour. All in all we are really pleased with the appearance and ease in construction. I would be somewhat concerned of someone breaking in pretty easily. The handles are made of the resin material so even placing a lock through both would require no more than a couple of snips within the resin to free the unlocked padlock. We have ours in a fairly well lit area with additional sensor lights. We store only items that are too big and bulky to be removed easily. It holds much more than we ever imagined!

It was literally a snap to install (after constructing a wood palette for a base). Good for what is is, though a bit flimsy. There's no way I'd pay over $450 for it. However, this shed is not compatible with the Suncast ALS17 Loft Shelf (as per the Suncraft website), even though it's listed by Amazon as an accessory. The ridge beams necessary to install the shelf either no longer ship with the B52, or never did.

Supriseingly sturdy and relatively easy to assemble, I did most assembling myself. Suggest you do not lean parts against a wall or fence, or in unevan piles while waiting to assemble. They do warp & bend in hot weather or direct sun & will take a little more effort to fit. Once assembled, everything will straighten out. One thing to know when ordering, the floor they provide is not structural & needs to sit on a concrete slab or wood deck framed with no less than 2 X 6's and 3/4" plywood. This adds several hundred dollars, although it is worth the money if bought for the right price.

The shed is great. Easy to build, sturdy, and convenient. No worries about leaking or rot. This shed gives a great space at a great price. Compared to other vinyl options from the local do it your self stores, this unit is cheaper for more space. I recommend it for anyone without a basement or attice like myself or for the person that needs alot of yard storage. Can't go wrong with the purchase.
